unknown date in 1979
soundboard tape, unknown generation
About a month ago a friend of mine handed me some reggae recordings on old cassettes belonging to his roommate, and asked me to transfer any that could still be played – including this tape, labeled “Marley rehearse ’79” – which turns out to be the “Survival” rehearsals at Tuff Gong Studios in Kingston, Jamaica in 1979.
This appears to be band rehearsals without the Wailers’ back-up singers; the backing vocals are all males and off-mic.
This recording is circulating in various forms.
Not including is my copy of a badly-distorted and muffled “Ride Natty Ride”
tracklist:
reseeded tracks:
T1 01 Could You Be Loved (take1) – 01:45
T2 02 Could You Be Loved (take2) – 06:24
T3 03 Survival (cut) – 01:18
T4 04 Zimbabwe – 14:09
T5 05 Ride Natty Ride – 21:39
tracklisting:
T6 Could You Be Loved 1:52
T7 Could You Be Loved 6:46
T8 Survival 1:23
T9 Zimbabwe 14:51

T10 Ride Natty Ride 21:41 [not included]
