Album info
“Charalambides’ Tom Carter has fashioned another wonderful set of solo guitar recordings, featuring extensive studies of electric guitar and lap steel spread across an hour’s worth of intense, pensive improvisation. Opener ‘Colors For N’ is decidedly lo-fi recording that actually proves to capture Carter’s guitar tone with the utmost sweetness. The piece languorously explores Carter’s slide guitar phrasings over a generous eighteen minutes, and is one of three lengthy solos here. The next is ‘Ursa Prime’, a trance-inducing tremolo piece, with Carter’s guitar flickering out strobes of warm, cumbersome audio. Far more succinct is the beautiful ‘For Two Seas’, a piece that brings together elements of John Fahey and Loren Connors with a sublime elegance. The final fifteen minutes is left to the sprawling lapsteel workout ‘At The Gates’ which sees Carter’s uneven microtonal vibrato making for some compellingly queasy, quivering drone work. Whispers Toward Infinity is surely one of the more far-out excursions into solo guitar dynamics to have surfaced of late, and it’s none the worse off for it. Recommended.” – Boomkat
