Description / Review:
————————
The world is always a better place each time a new Grand Buffet disc drops, and it’s been a long time a comin’ for some new material to finally see the light of day. One thing I have always loved about these Grand Buffet mini-albums is how easy they are to digest yet I keep finding something new with each listen. And as always, I can’t stop playing them shortly after they’re purchased. The lo-fi-80’s-new wave synths-meets old school hip hop beats are still present and the catchy pop hooks keep songs in your head long after playing them. There seems to be a new level of singing and harmonizing on this ep too, with four of the five tracks exclusive/not included on the upcoming and highly anticipated "King Vision" full length. For me, all the songs are great, but the highlights would have to be the uplifting and pseudo-philosophical opener Dark Autumn (also to be included on King Vision) as well as the Grape-a-don track entitled Cool Treasure, perhaps the strongest song on the disc, keeping me going back to play it over and over again. On the song, Total Control, Lord Grunge, in classic Grunge style, attacks right wing conformity over clunkey, clapping hip hop beats, while on It Feels Good to Move, Gil Mantera’s Party Dream inject and extra dose of dance funk to shake your rumpa. Bears and Bricks closes the set off with some mighty surreal story telling via Grape-a-don’s skillfully paced rhymes. A great little taster before the big one is dropped and a must for any GB fan or anyone looking to hear something fun yet thought-provoking and totally out of the ordinary.
