When “XXXO” leaked back in early May, writer Erik Ziedses des Plantes perfectly summed up the track with the following description: “[it’s] a caffeinated banger, with twirling synths, industrial clanging, and one of the most straightforward beats she’s ever appeared on.” And, truthfully, the single was good enough on its own without receiving any sort of remix treatment. But you knew someone was destined to take it on like when a slew of rappers jumped on “Boyz” and “Paper Planes.” It’s arguable that the former’s best remix came when Jay-Z hopped on the beat and, well, it only makes sense that he’d do the same on “XXXO.” While most of the lines are definitely style over substance, Jigga’s verse is a welcome, albeit short, addition.
