Oh No! Oh My! – People Problems

Wait… Is this Oh No Oh My? Are these the same Austin twee popster who sang about walking in the park and seamlessly transitioned upbeat electronic beats in “I Love You All the Time”? It is clear thatPeople Problem is a different beast than Oh No Oh My’s self-titled release. The songs are more polished and the lyrics a little less accessible. I’m not going to say that Oh No Oh My has matured since their debut release, because that’s such a silly and cliché thing to say about sophomore full-length albums. Oh No Oh My won’t suddenly start moonlighting on adult contemporary stations. Nonetheless,People Problem is a solid album through and through. The opener, “Walking Into Me” is drenched in synthesizers and makes you wonder if touring with Au Revoir Simone might have rubbed off them a bit. “You Were Right” and “So I Took You” are well orchestrated and layered in lovely, gentle sounds.  You can’t help but nod your head and think, “These are gems. These are the kind of songs that Rob Gordon would put on a mix.”While I am often reminded of Belle & Sebastian, and occasionally the softness of Simon & Garfunkel, People Problem manages to stand on its own and remain distinct.
