The Jayhawks – Live From The Women’s Club Vol. 2

from allmusic

Three years after the release of volume one, the Jayhawks’ official fan site finally issues the second half of the band’s April 2002 acoustic show at the Minneapolis Woman’s Club. By then comprising only singer/guitarist Gary Louris, bassist Marc Perlman, and drummer Tim O’Reagan, the set captures the band at its most spare and intimate, stripping away the scorching guitar solos and lush arrangements to place the focus solely on the songs. Especially in this kind of setting, Louris’ songs boast a timelessness and depth that places them squarely on the same continuum as the folk and country perennials that were their inspiration — "What Led Me to This Kind of Life," "Settled Down Like Rain," and "Clouds" have the shape and feel of contemporary traditionals, an oxymoron the Jayhawks somehow make possible.
