Unbelievable!!!!! That’s the only word that I can think of to describe this performance. I was saying to people around me, “Did you just hear that , was it really that good?”. And they’d say “Yes, it was”.
Man, I am fully aware of how biased I am, but this show was SUPER HOT from beginninng to end. Probably the best Southern Man I have ever heard — passionate, deeply feelings flowed from each of CSNY’s faces). From there, thru to a smokin’, string-ripping finale with Rocking In The Free World. WOW!!!!!
I was looking at my wife with those BIG BUG eyes, as if to say “Oh my God”. CSNY were sizzling HOT last night — of the shows I have heard (on CDR) so far this was the best. Down By The River for 17 minutes and 47 seconds. Beautiful, tastefully done Helpless and Suite: Judy Blue Eyes, both done for the first time of the tour here in Boston. We were LUCKY in Boston Last night.
Over the last couple of weeks I have read some criticism about some song being lame, or one of the guys being off key, or whatever. Perhaps these people may have been correct at the time. Well, last night was definitely an exception to all of these speculations. Graham was pitch perfect all night. ALL night. David was emotional and deeply into all of his wonderful Old and new songs (I love Dream for Him live). Steven Stills was on FIRE, anyone who may have said he can’t play anymore, boy were you wrong! Stills on S:JBE was no less than STUNNING — hitting 1/32ths (I think) and doing a speedy solo that had the crowd on its feet cheering.
And of course I saved the best for last: Neil Young. Neil, if you ever read this let me tell you that you never cease to amaze me!!! Every time I see you you’re better and better. Last nights’s Down By The River clocked in at 17:47, and I think it could go down in history as the greatest version of that gem ever played.
Together, CSNY’s vocal harmonies were very close to perfect all night. I really hadn’t noticed from the CDs I’ve heard, but Graham Nash is a workhorse on the vocal. He adds so much to each song. Together, this is a SOLID group right now. Together, CSNY had grown men crying. Together, CSNY is the Greatest Live Rock’n’Roll Band Ever. Bar none!
