rym review:
Like “Sideroxylon” this album lacks the greater production values of the albums to follow but is full of great moments. “Back In The Red” is a great iconic Rifles track. “Electric Snake River” is one of their most unusual efforts and reminscent of “God Squad” from the previous album. A haunting flute and acoustic guitars mixed in with the usual Rifles (read: machine gun) guitar assault. Also at 6:52 mins is one of their long, (dare I say it?) more prog rock tracks. Lovelock’s drawling, laconic, sarcastic ramblings over “Darlinghurst Confidential” and “Thank You America” are great. However the song which always got me was “Rainforest” with vocals (I think??) from Kent Steedman. He is no singer but love this effort because it obviously means so much to him. Go Kent. Who is on the chainsaw?
