here is the info file from Dime

Led Zeppelin Live at the Newport Jazz Festival 1969-07-06/7 from 2nd gen AUD reel-to-reel tape with known lineage(rec1)- *BLOWS AWAY ANY PREVIOUS VERSION* “Freakin’ At Newport, Part 1” (mp3 sample) CD-BURNABLE VERSION

Thanks to Bill B. for the tape. Long may you wave!

This is the CD-Burnable version of this torrent.

Now, just how long ago was this show? Let’s list some of the facts:

1.) Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Sharon Tate and Mary Jo Kopechne were still alive (best wishes for your recovery, Ted… but don’t EVER forget. We won’t).

2.) “The Moonwalk” referred to people landing on the moon and walking there on the surface… which hadn’t happened yet.

3.) Woodstock hadn’t happened yet.

4.) The Beatles were still a group and hadn’t released their final LP yet!

5.) Cable TV and cell phones were unknown. People were browsing for the latest in TV antennas with rotors!

6.) “The Princess” referred to a telephone… with a nightlight!

7.) Led Zeppelin were a little-known blues band… as were some of the other acts…

This torrent is of an amazing time. Just this once, I’d like to let you in on what’s coming up. The following jaw-dropping sets are on their way to you:

B.B. King (first performance at Newport)

Johnny Winter

B.B. King **AND** Johnny Winter (yes, it’s freaking awesome)

Savage Rose

Setlist for Led Zeppelin (runtime 55 minutes):

Train Kept A’ Rollin’

I Can’t Quit You Baby

Conversation

Dazed And Confused

You Shook Me

How Many More Times

Communication Breakdown (end cut)

Lineage: MR->R->??R??->Sound Forge ->16 cent slowdown (enough to be really noticeable)-> Resampling and Bit Depth Conversion ->FLAC via Flac Frontend level 6, sectors aligned and verified

Commercial break (Werbungzeit):

Since there were comments along these lines the last time around, your humble seeder would like to set the record straight in advance:

The phrase “blows away any previous version” refers to any previous version of rec1. There are three known recorders of the Led Zeppelin set, and this is the best rendition of the best recording of this show. It isn’t the longest recording, but it is the best, and yes, it does blow the previous version back to 1969.

Back to your regularly scheduled program!

Enjoy!

BB King, Johnny Winter – PLUS BB King *AND* Johnny Winter (Mind-melting!) Live At The Newport Jazz Festival 1969-07-06 from 2nd gen AUD reel-to-reel tape with known lineage(rec1)- *BLOWS AWAY ANY PREVIOUS VERSION* “Freakin’ At Newport, Part 2” 16 Bit CD-burnable version

Welcome to Part 2 of an historic event!

The performances of the two artists of this show really could not be seperated. The announcements during and between sets connect them as one event, so they are presented together. BB King performs first, then Johnny Winter, and then BB King JOINS Johnny Winter for a jam session that has to be heard to be believed. To say they go a little crazy together is an understatement. The recording quality of the BB King starts off a bit better than the previously posted Led Zeppelin. It then takes another major leap forward just before Johnny Winter hits the stage.

These over-the-top performances, that you can listen to over and over again!

Even though part of this recording needed speed correction, that’s not a pitch problem you hear. BB’s guitar is “funky-style” out of tune. Not out of tune to itself, but pitched slightly out-of-key. It certainly adds another dimension to the sound of his band. You’ll notice it more on the jam with Johnny Winter.

BB King (33:52)

Every Day I Have The Blues

How Blue Can You Get

Whole Lot Of Lovin’

I’ve Got A Good Mind To Give Up Living

What’s Wrong Little Mama

Please Accept My Love (Instrumental)

Band Introductions

Why I Sing The Blues

Johnny Winter (38:22)

Leland Mississippi Blues

Black Cat Bone

Mean Town Blues

It’s My Own Fault

BB King With Johnny Winter (26:59)

Every Day I Have The Blues Jam

I’ve Been Mistreated Jam

A note on burning: The Led Zeppelin torrent and this torrent can be combined to just fit onto two cdr’s. Burn the Led Zeppelin, and then the BB King through the end of “Please Accept My Love” on one cd, and burn the rest on the second.

Lineage: MR->R->??R??->Sound Forge ->16 cent slowdown (3/5 of 1/4 of one note) for part of show->FLAC via Flac Frontend level 6, sectors aligned and verified

Several glitches in the original tape were smoothed out. Pitch was matched and maintained throughout with “Virtual Keyboard”.

It’s possible, although completely unconfirmed, that you are hearing these performances for the first time. Can anyone confirm that?

Enjoy!
