Vibracathedral Orchestra fans may rejoice as the collective’s latest urban raga is a stunner! It’s incredible how every new release by the band seems to be more intoxicating than the last. The two-part The Momentary Aviary is some of the most hypnotic and captivating music I’ve heard this year. Each album side is divided into shorter tracks which seamlessly blend into each other while the constant chirping of birds binds the whole thing together. It all starts off with pure distorted drones while the constant quavering of a guitar warbles on with odd blasts of feedback to keep the work from becoming too soporific. Tribal beats eventually come in as the track eventually shifts gears and becomes more energetically charged. Elements of jazz are added to this psychedelic tempest, expanding the music’s colorful spectrum and the second side continues to pile on the surprises, turning this album into one of the most varied of VCO’s career. 600 copies.
