The Dylan Covers Vol. 6:
Alt-Country Pie
Note from Jeffs98119, the compiler and uploader on Dime:
This one kicks off with something special: a never before heard soundboard recording of Alejandro Escovedo doing "Just Like Tom Thumb’s Blues," from my friend Butterking of JEMS.
The story behind it is that I attended the show at Seattle’s tiny Hattie’s Hat with Butterking, was blown away by the intensity and intimacy of Alejandro’s performance, and have been trying to get a copy of the show from BK ever since. In honor of this project, he has provided this track, and promises to share the entire show when time permits.
As for the rest, they are all soundboards or FM, and all roughly qualify as alt-country–that is, if you saw an article about any of these artists in No Depression, it wouldn’t be a complete surprise. (OK, maybe David Allan Coe, but Dylan did play him on his radio show.)
As always, thanks to the tapers, the original uploaders, folks who’ve sent me suggestions and files, and especially the performers and composer and to Pdiamond for the art.
Due to the many different sources, I am not including lineages. I have done nothing to the original files but normalize the levels and fade in and out on each track (using Cool Edit).
Enjoy! JS
